According to Floods Directive, the Member States shall, at the level of the river basin district or unit of management, prepare flood hazard maps and flood risk maps at the most appropriate scale for the areas identified under Article 5(1).

Task Groups (TGs) comprise national experts from ICPDR Contracting Parties and representatives of observer organizations. More topical than the Expert Groups of the ICPDR, Task Groups report to the Expert Groups and thereby make valuable contributions to the work of the ICPDR.

We Pass was an initiative aiming to facilitate fish migration in the Danube River Basin, set up by the ICPDR, Jaroslav Černi Institute, DDNI, CDM SMITH, OAK Consultants, and the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research. The focus was on the preservation and reestablishment of endangered fish species migration routes in the Danube River, its tributaries, and specifically at the Iron Gates.

Sturgeons and other migratory fish species represent a historic, economic and natural heritage of the Danube River Basin and are indicators of the ecological status of aquatic ecosystems, especially of the functionality of ecological corridors. Their populations have suffered substantially from overfishing, pollution, habitat destruction and disruption of their migration routes. The need for their conservation is recognized at a high political and management level (EUSDR-PA 06, Biodiversity, DRBMP).

The ad hoc Strategic Expert Group (ad hoc S EG) addresses administrative and legal matters arising from the implementation of the Danube River Protection Convention.

The Accident Prevention & Control Expert Group (APC EG) deals with ICPDR activities concerning the prevention and management of accidental pollution.

The Flood Protection Expert Group (FP EG) deals with ICPDR activities concerning sustainable flood risk management and the development and implementation of the Danube River Basin Flood Risk Management Plan.

The Information Management and Geographical Information System Expert Group (IMGIS EG) deals with activities related to data collection and maps.

The Pollution Management Expert Group (PM EG) deals with pollution-related pressures, identifies the drivers behind them, and recommends measures to address pollution sources.

The Monitoring and Assessment (MA EG) deals with ICPDR activities concerning surveillance as well as investigative monitoring and water quality analyses.
