Danube Art Master Competition 2024: International Winners Announced
VIENNA, 16 December 2024 (Press Release) – The International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) proudly announced the winners of this year's Danube Art Master competition during its 27th Ordinary Meeting at the Vienna International Centre.
An award ceremony was held to honor the international winners in each competition category. Susanne Brandstetter, Chairperson of the ICPDR's Public Participation Expert Group, announced the winners, recognizing the outstanding achievements in each competition category. While presenting the winners, Brandstetter pointed out, “The younger generation is not only the future but also the present keepers of our Danube. Their fresh perspective and creativity in approaching this vital resource (water) is a learning opportunity for us all, year after year.”
This year was particularly unique, as it marked the 30th anniversary of the ICPDR and the 20th anniversary of the Danube Art Master competition, which encourages children and teenagers from the Danube River Basin to reflect on the health of their local rivers and express their perspectives creatively through different artistic mediums.
The 2024 competition, themed "Keep the Danube Blue," received an enthusiastic response, with about 1,300 children from 175 schools across the Danube River Basin participating. Collectively, they submitted 715 different works of art in total, celebrating the beauty and significance of the Danube River. As always, the participants were encouraged to use materials sourced, inspired, or taken directly from their local environments, emphasizing the importance of their surroundings as a primary source of inspiration. The winners were selected by a jury comprising members of the ICPDR's Public Participation Expert Group.
The 2024 Danube Art Master Competition winners in each category are as follows:

An open-air exhibition was held from June 20th to 26th at Hviezdoslav Square in Bratislava, showcasing a diverse collection of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and multimedia installations, all inspired by the importance of protecting and preserving the Danube.
The ICPDR extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and participants of the 2024 Danube Art Master competition.
Their creativity and dedication to environmental stewardship continue to inspire efforts to protect and preserve the Danube River for future generations. Danube Art Master is jointly organized by the ICPDR and the Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE), an ICPDR observer organization and one of the largest networks focusing on water in the world.
