The EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) strengthens cooperative frameworks and supports existing institutions that help Member States to implement EU legislation. Close cooperation with the ICPDR with its experience and mandate in water management is therefore very important. ICPDR and EUSDR coordinate their activities to utilise synergies.
Joint Danube Survey 3
The Joint Danube Survey 3 (JDS3) was the world’s biggest river research expedition of its kind in 2013, the UN International Year of Water Cooperation. Its results were published in a comprehensive report in early 2015.

Danube River Basin Analysis 2013
The 2013 Update of the Danube Basin Analysis provides a characterisation of the river basin district, a review of the environmental impact of human activity and an economic analysis of water use. This was first accomplished for the Danube River Basin in 2004 and is now updated. The updated assessment provides the analytical basis and is a preparatory step towards the elaboration of the Danube River Basin Management Plan - Update 2015.
Public consultation on 2015 management plans
The ICPDR supports the active involvement of stakeholders and civil society on all levels of its work. The most important work plans of the ICPDR are the Danube River Basin Management Plan and the Flood Risk Management Plan. Both were developed with a range of public consultation measures.

The ad hoc Strategic Expert Group (ad hoc S EG) addresses administrative and legal matters arising from the implementation of the Danube River Protection Convention.

The Accident Prevention & Control Expert Group (APC EG) deals with ICPDR activities concerning the prevention and management of accidental pollution.
