Information Event: “Climate Change in the Danube Region”

In the light of the extreme weather conditions in recent years - especially with regard to the drought periods in the year 2015 and the ice situation in the winter of 2016, the ICPDR considers Climate Change a primary concern in the Danube Region. Dr. Wolfram Mauser, Department Chair for Physical Geography and Remote Sensing at the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) of Munich will introduce the challenges the Danube basin is facing. His intervention will be followed by a moderated discussion with a panel of representatives of ICPDR countries and observers, discussing the ICPDR role as cross-border platform for exchange on measures to tackle climate change in the Danube river basin.  On the panel:

  • Maria Patek, Head of Section Water Management at the Austrian Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (BMLFUW)
  • Bettina Doeser, ICPDR Head of delegation for the European Union & Head of Unit “Clean Water”, DG Environment (EC) 
  • Ivan Zavadsky, Executive Secretary of the ICPDR
  • Irene Lucius, ‎Regional Conservation Director at WWF Danube-Carpathian Programme (WWF DC)

The event starts at 5:00 pm and also includes a rich and diverse program, with an artistic introduction to the theme "Water Awareness & Cooperation in the Danube region" and presentation of creative videos on the topic of water from the University of Applied Arts. Susanne Brandstetter, Chairperson of the ICPDR Public Participation expert group and Head of Public Relations for Water at the BMLFUW will lead this part of the program.
