The ICPDR acts as a platform for its contracting parties to coordinate responses to various environmental threats, formalised in the Danube Protection Convention of 1994. Since 2009, the Danube River Management Plan (DRBMP) provides a roadmap for this. It contains a Joint Programme of Measures and aims to fulfil the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD).
