Vienna, 12 September 2013. In cooperation with ICPDR and Coca-Cola Europe, the International RiverFoundation has awarded the inaugural IRF European Riverprize to the River Rhine. The award is endowed with 25,000 EUR and additional support of twinning activities.

Sarajevo, 19 June 2013. As an essential step in maintaining a dialogue with the hydropower sector, the ICPDR's Standing Working Group has adopted the "Guiding Principles on Sustainable Hydropower Development in the Danube Basin". The document is available for download here.

Sava Basin, 1 June 2013. The International Sava Day is celebrated today in the Sava sub-basin, opening June as the "month of rivers". Events will be organised in all countries of the Sava Basin and will range from cycling tours to the Sava Youth Parliament and other educational events.

Danube Basin, 22 May 2013. With approximately 5000 native animal and 2000 plant species, the Danube River Basin is an important element in preserving biodiversity in Europe. To improve this further, educational activities are key. The Danubeparks network is now launching a new initiative in this field.

Earth, 22 April 2013. „Earth Day“ is celebrated all around the World, including many places in the Danube River Basin. Highlighting the responsibility that all people share for the well-being of our planet, many events are also dedicated to the condition of water. The Serbian “Supernatural Festival” demonstrated this.

Danube Basin, 20 March 2013. World Water Day 2013 is an occasion to celebrate achievements, but also to look at challenges in the Danube River Basin and beyond, says ICPDR President Ermina Salkičević-Dizdarević.

Ljubljana, 26/27 March 2013. Organised by Slovenia and the ICPDR, a conference on hydropower and water management will be held where draft guiding principles will be discussed with a broader audience, accompanied by presentations on practical examples for the application.

Paris, 11 Feb 2013. In December 2010, the United Nations General Assembly declared 2013 as the United Nations International Year of Water Cooperation. A UNESCO-organised conference now marked the official launch of this year of celebration.

Osijek, 11 Feb 2012. The recent publication of a Croatian version of the PLATINA Manual is a major step in promoting good practices in inland navigation and waterway planning. The manual can be downloaded below.

Timişoara, 21/22 February 2012. Cooperation on navigation is already ongoing and has now been launched for hydropower: efforts are needed in creating win-win situations and benefits for all actors involved. The 1st ICPDR Workshop on Hydropower and Water Management was organised by Romania (Apele Romane) in close cooperation with the other two Lead Countries Austria and Slovenia and the ICPDR.
