    European Union takes over ICPDR Presidency for 2017 from the Czech Republic

    On Monday, 23 January, the European Union takes over the annual Presidency of the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR).
    Incoming President Peter Gammeltoft has set three main priorities for his term: strengthening of financial support for the ICPDR, assessing the impact of agricultural activities on the Danube River Basin environment, and increasing the visibility of the ICPDR.

    ICPDR convenes 19th annual Ordinary Meeting

    On 6 and 7 December 2016 the ICPDR held its 19th Ordinary Meeting in Vienna.
    Beside the heads of delegation and representatives of the 15 contracting parties to the ICPDR, about 60 participants from all Danube countries, observers and invited guests attended this important event.

    Croatia to take over ICPDR Presidency 2015

    Vienna, 10 December 2014. Croatia will take over the ICPDR Presidency 2015. In the frame of the 17th Ordinary Meeting of the commission, incoming president Mr. Drazen Kurecic received a bottle of Danube water as a symbol for the presidency from acting president Ms. Emilia Kraeva of Bulgaria.

    5,000 Sterlets released into Danube

    Belene, 18 November 2014. WWF has released some 5,000 sterlets into the Danube River today as part of a 50,000-strong sturgeon restocking programme. This is the first restocking of endangered sturgeons performed by a non-government organization in Bulgaria, after years of scientific research, climatic and biological challenges.

    River Mur wins IRF European Riverprize 2014

    Vienna, 28 October 2014. The IRF European Riverprize 2014 was awarded to the Austrian stretch of the River Mur. All three finalists were from the Danube River Basin.

    SEE River project coming to end: report available

    Vienna, 24 October 2014. The final event of the SEE River Project will be integrated with next week's 6th European River Restoration Conference at Vienna’s TechGate. The final publication of SEE River is available in print and for download. The project has lasted from October 2012 until now.

    German photography award for JDS3 photo essay

    Bremen/Leipzig, 24 September 2014. The photographer André Künzelmann was awarded the “Deutscher Preis für Wissenschaftsfotografie”, a prestigious award for science photography for a photo essay on the Joint Danube Survey 3.

    Bratislava, 18 September 2014. Moldavian children have won the „International Danube Art Master 2014“ competition, as the ICPDR and Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE) announced today.

    Rhine Commission wins International Riverprize

    Canberra, 16 September 2014. The International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine (ICPR) won the 2014 Thiess International Riverprize. The award was presented in front of river professionals from all over the world at the Riverprize Gala Dinner, held in conjunction with the International Riversymposium. This follows the award of the European Riverprize last year.
